Where we install solar around Washington, DC

Washington is home base, and the rules change every time you cross a line. DC, Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey each credit solar differently, so the same system can pay back very differently a few miles apart. Here is where we work and what changes in each place.

Short answer

EvoGen Solar installs and services solar across Washington, DC, the nearby Maryland suburbs in Montgomery and Prince George's counties, Northern Virginia from Arlington and Alexandria to Fairfax County, and Camden County, NJ, around our Berlin head office. The DC office on 14th Street NW handles the District and the inner suburbs.

Washington, DC

The District, from rowhouse roofs to historic blocks

Most of our work is inside the District, where DC SRECs make solar pay faster than anywhere nearby. Rowhouse flat roofs behind parapets are the everyday job; historic districts such as Capitol Hill, Georgetown and Kalorama add a preservation review we plan for from the start. Our service office sits on 14th Street NW in 16th Street Heights, central to most of the city.

Neighborhood pages cover the differences that matter: Capitol Hill and Anacostia for historic review, Georgetown for the Old Georgetown Board, Petworth and Columbia Heights for rowhouse roofs, and Brookland for pitched roofs under trees.

The District's most owner-occupied neighborhoods get their own pages too: Chevy Chase, American University Park and Spring Valley west of Rock Creek Park; Shepherd Park, Brightwood and 16th Street Heights, home of our office, in upper Northwest; Michigan Park, Woodridge and Riggs Park in Northeast; and Hillcrest east of the river.

Maryland suburbs

Montgomery and Prince George's counties

Across the line in Montgomery County, including Bethesda and Takoma Park, and in Prince George's County, College Park and Hyattsville, Maryland's rules apply: full retail net metering open to new customers until July 1, 2027, Maryland SRECs worth far less than DC's, and county programs such as the Green Bank and Prince George's tax credit.

Northern Virginia

Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax

In Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax, Dominion is the utility for most homes, with NOVEC in western Fairfax County. Virginia kept one-to-one net metering in its April 2026 order and exempts residential systems from property and sales tax.

South Jersey

Camden County, around our head office

Our head office is in Berlin, and we install across Camden County, where New Jersey pays fixed SREC-II credits for 15 years and keeps one-to-one net metering.

Area pages

Pick your county or city

Each page covers the incentives, utility rules and paperwork that apply there.

Capitol Hill, DC

Solar on Capitol Hill is allowed but goes through historic review, because the Capitol Hill Historic District, with about 8,000 contributing buildings, is the largest in DC.

Georgetown, DC

Solar in Georgetown is reviewed by the Commission of Fine Arts on the advice of the Old Georgetown Board, not the HPRB that reviews the rest of the city.

Petworth, DC

Solar in Petworth usually goes on the flat main roof of a porch-front rowhouse, on a low rack behind the parapet, and earns full DC SRECs.

Columbia Heights, DC

Solar in Columbia Heights usually goes on flat rowhouse roofs behind the parapet, and earns full DC SRECs.

Brookland, DC

Solar in Brookland is often a pitched-roof job: bungalows and Victorians take flashed rail systems on their south or west slopes, and mature trees make a shade check essential.

Anacostia, DC

Solar in the Anacostia Historic District goes through historic review, as on other protected DC blocks.

Chevy Chase, DC

Solar in Chevy Chase, DC earns DC SRECs, which sold for about $360 to $455 each in 2026, while homes across the line in Chevy Chase, MD earn Maryland credits listed near $40.

American University Park, DC

Brightwood, DC

Solar in Brightwood, DC is often a modest rooftop system on a starter home, sometimes with an electrical panel upgrade, certified for DC SRECs.

16th Street Heights, DC

Solar in 16th Street Heights, DC is served from our office at 4702 14th St NW, so repairs, diagnostics and new installs are short trips.

Solar in Hillcrest, DC usually goes on a detached, owner-occupied house and earns DC SRECs worth about $360 to $455 each in 2026.

Montgomery County, MD

Solar in Montgomery County, MD runs on Maryland's rules: full retail net metering through Pepco stays open to new customers until July 1, 2027, Maryland SRECs are worth far less than DC's, and the county's Green Bank offers low-interest solar loans.

Prince George's County, MD

Solar in Prince George's County, MD qualifies for a county tax credit of up to $5,000 for residential installations, on top of Maryland's full retail net metering and its sales tax exemption on qualifying solar equipment.

Arlington, VA

Alexandria, VA

Solar in Alexandria, VA is net metered one to one by Dominion under Virginia's April 30, 2026 order, and interconnection applications approved before May 1, 2027 stay on those terms.

Fairfax County, VA

Solar in Fairfax County, VA benefits from waived residential solar permit fees and a five year solar equipment property tax exemption, while the City of Fairfax offers a ten year exemption.

Bethesda, MD

Takoma Park, MD

College Park, MD

Solar in College Park, MD qualifies for Prince George's County's tax credit of up to $5,000, Maryland's full retail net metering for new customers until July 1, 2027, and the state's sales tax exemption on solar equipment.

City of Fairfax, VA

Solar in the City of Fairfax, VA qualifies for the city's ten year exemption on residential solar equipment, Virginia's automatic property tax exemption for systems up to 25 kW and its sales tax exemption on solar equipment, and Dominion's one-to-one net metering, which Virginia regulators kept in an April 30, 2026 order..

Hyattsville, MD

Solar in Hyattsville, MD combines Prince George's County's tax credit of up to $5,000, Maryland's full retail net metering for new customers until July 1, 2027, and Maryland's sales tax exemption on qualifying solar equipment.

Farther out, we say so on the first call

We do not cover Baltimore, Annapolis or the outer Virginia counties as a rule, and we would rather tell you that on the first call than send you to a crew that has never worked your utility. If your address is on the edge of these areas, call and we will tell you plainly whether we can take the job.
